In April 2007, there was another visit to Lings Wood Nature
reserve, this time to explore Wild Art and Pond Dipping. There was
also the opportunity to visit Boughton House on their open day, where
various educational activities are available for the children to watch
or take part in. During March 2007, many families went to a session on "Homes in the Past"
at Abington Museum in Northampton. A curator talked about a
typical day in Victorian times. The children were able to handle
some artefacts and afterwards look around the rest of the museum.
It was a lovely day, weather-wise, and many families also enjoyed a
picnic lunch in the park.
We have also recently had some very successful sessions at a
community centre in the south of the county. Various arts and
craft activities were available to the children, including sock puppet
making, play dough and card making. At these sessions, we have a
shared lunch, where everyone brings something to share. These
sessions look likely to become a regular event.
Throughout Winter 2006, we have had
several sessions at a local "soft play" centre. This is a lovely
way for younger children to let off a bit of steam and meet other
home-educated children. It's also a great way for parents to socialise, too!
During Autumn 2006, there were visits to West Lodge Rural Centre and
Lings Wood Nature Reserve.
